of Spring”, which has been successfully held in more than 30 major countries to celebrate Chinese New Year and to promote cultural communication and exchange.
This Chinese Acrobatic Spectacular will officially open in Sydney at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Thursday 9 February 2012.
Founded in 1951, the Guangdong Acrobatic Troupe of China is China’s foremost acrobatic company. Renowned throughout the world, the Troupe astounds audiences with its astonishing productions
which push imagination, physicality and technology to their limits in its electrifying presentations of traditional Chinese folk acrobatics within a dynamic modern perspective.
Their extraordinary reinterpretation of ‘Swan Lake’ has taken the world by storm since its premier - gold in Monte Carlo and at the China Acrobatics Competition.
The performance includes scenes in which the White Swan dances en pointe on top of the Prince’s head and shoulders, and another in which the famous dance of the four little swans is transformed
into a performance of four little frogs, played by men – who do the entire dance on their arms. Pole balancing, jumping through fire hoops, rope walking, ball walking and jujitsu are all
seamlessly woven into the story, and there is a constant blurring of performance styles, including not only ballet and acrobatics, but also elements of Peking Opera. The Troupe has recently
performed at The London Coliseum and gathered stunning reviews.
“Stunning production” Int Herald Tribune
“..the quality of the performers … are exceptional. Their control and precision is eye-popping, as is the ingenuity of their moves.” Sarah Frater, London Evening Standard
“Every feat is performed with utter jubilation and fearless bravery.” Debra Craine, The Times
“The company’s skills are phenomenal …” Rupert Christiansen, The Mail on Sunday
In the year of 2012, the scene from the opening ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be seen again in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The Troupe’s new production Life and Light
encompasses all the highs and lows, raw emotions and personal thoughts of growing up. This circus ballet is an adagio act of exquisite delicacy and brilliance. The spectacular Guangdong Troupe
will time-travel you to an ancient art by invigorating it with post modernity, Olympian-level talent, savvy showmanship and a sense of humour.
