Environmental Awareness And Sustainability
The Sydney Entertainment Centre’s environment plan is driven by the Environmental Committee, a passionate group of staff with a collective voice who meet regularly to discuss & manage the venue’s environment issues, best practices and work together to enhance the quality of outcomes throughout staff engagement and achievements. The Committee has been working closely with the Office of Environment & Heritage and participates in the Sustainability Advantage Program. The programme helps organisations such as the venue operations and management to understand sustainability practices, integrating them into the workplace and assist our clients in reducing their carbon foot print.
The SEC's Environmental Currently is working with the Sustainability Advantage Program to:
- Manage environmental risk and ensure compliance
- Use resources more efficiently
- Integrate environmental strategies with business planning
- Measure the carbon footprint and manage emissions
- Enhance customer, supplier and community relationships
- Engage and train staff to become an employer of choice
At the Sydney Entertainment Centre, the company is determined to continue making sustainability a core part of the way we conduct our business. To achieve this outcome, we accept and embrace our social responsibility as a corporate member of Sydney, Darling Harbour, Chinatown and Haymarket communities. The Sydney Entertainment Centre practises responsible environmental management by the conservation of resources, prevention of pollution, compliance with relevant legislation and by continually leading by example in adopting the best environmental practises.

KEY GREEN INITIATIVES
Some of the initiatives implemented by the Sydney Entertainment Centre in recent years include:
Water Meters
Smart devices to monitor and control water usage.
Male Bathrooms
Waterless urinals saving up to the equivalent of an olympic swimming pool earch 90 days.
Bio Cups
The SEC merrily grinds and froths its way through 25,000 cups of hot drinks each year. We now insist on using the Bio Cup which is produced in an environmentally responsible way.
Solar Panels
Roof panels on the building have been installed to reduce utility sourced electricity and help to support and assist the everyday power requirements of the building.
Food Recycling
The SEC donates excess pre-package food to OzHarvest, a Not-For-Profit organisation. OzHarvest collects and delivers food free of charge to various charities across Sydney.

After these steps have been followed, there will be remaining carbon emissions that can’t be reduced further. The SEC recommends to offer these emissions by using our carbon neutral event calculator.

CARBON CALCULATOR
For many years now, global warming has been linked to the amount of carbon and other greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere. The Sydney Entertainment Centre is committed to helping you, as the promoter, understand what bearing your forthcoming event may have on the environment.
We will be sharing our specially built carbon calculator which will help hirers and promoters look at ways of examining their emissions, thus reducing the impact surrounding their future events.
